If you currently live in Denver and aren’t at The Kong Off 3, then there is something seriously wrong with you. Are you seriously going to pass up an opportunity to see Steve Wiebe and Billy freakin’ Mitchell take on ten of the other best Donkey Kong players in the world? Because no sane person would do that.
(Okay, to be fair, perhaps you haven’t seen the documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. If that’s the case, you should drop everything you’re doing at this moment and watch it immediately. Unless what you are doing is driving to The Kong Off 3, in which case you should keep your eyes on the road and your hands at 10 and 2.)
The inaugural Kong Off, inspired by the popularity of the documentary, was held in 2011. Plastic surgeon Hank Chien took home the title with a live score of 994,400 points. The Kong Off 2 was held the next year, with Jeff Willms taking home the title with a ridiculous score of 1,105,400. Both Chien and Willms will be competing again this year, so the competition should be fierce.
The official website for the event has all the player/event info you need, so go check it out.
We’ll be bringing you results as they are made available, but until then you can bask in the glory that is Billy Mitchell.
Best of luck to all the gamers!
