The Columbus Blue Jackets received a mighty blow to their playoff hopes today as they found out that Marian Gaborik would be on the shelf for at least a month with a sprained knee. While the typically electric forward hasn’t exactly been dominating in Columbus, he still possesses the talent needed to break games open on occasion.

Plus, he’s arguably the top forward on the squad on a nightly basis. Now they’ll have to try to dig themselves out of a 6-10-2 hole that has the team idling in eighth place in the Atlantic Division.

The Jackets have battled up hill before though. Believe it or not, they actually have the horses to do it again. While their forward group is young, there are several players that could step up to fill the void left by an injured Gaborik. By the time he returns, the squad could be in much better shape than they are now.

If anything has taken a hit with the injury, it’s Gaborik’s potential trade value. His name has surfaced in a variety of reports recently, but he won’t be going anywhere with a busted knee. So the former All-Star is out of the lineup for the forseeable future. Who do the Jackets have in-house that can ease the loss?
