Roy Williams speaks on P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald

The North Carolina Tar Heels are still without two of their best players, who may be out of action for the foreseeable future. Guards P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald did not play in the team’s season opener vs. Oakland and will miss Friday night’s game vs Holy Cross as they continue to have their eligibility evaluated by the NCAA.

Tar Heels Head Coach Roy WIlliams finally spoke publicly about the two:

“It’s what it is,” coach Roy Williams said Thursday. “Everybody’s trying to do their best. We’re trying to move along.”

“They’ve been great teammates through all of this. They’ve been wonderful in practice, they’re pushing the other guys. They’ve been quality teammates every day. But I think everybody feels for them right now.”

Hairston averaged nearly 15 points last season and shot 40 percent from 3-point range. He opted to return to school after he nearly left for the NBA Draft this past  spring.

Mark Seidel of TarHeelsIllustrated reported earlier this week that it’s looking likely that Hairston will miss the entire season.
