The Miami Heat are going to be one player short come their game against the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night as the NBA announced they have suspended point guard Mario Chalmers for one game, this after making contact with Dirk Nowitzki.
The play in question took place during the fourth quarter of Miami’s win over the Dallas Mavericks in which Chalmers attempted to fight through a screen set by Nowitzki.
With five minutes left in the contest, Chalmers, who was unable to fight through the screen (which looked to be illegal considering Dirk was moving) decided to give a forearm shiver to the head of the Mavericks star talent, sending the All-Star big man to the ground.
Chalmers played it off innocently, suggesting it was just incidental contact but that’s not how the NBA saw it according to Sam Amick:
Miami’s Mario Chalmers suspended one game for throwing forearm & making contact with head of Dirk Nowitzki
Of course, against the Charlotte Bobcats, I’m not sure the Heat will miss their starting point guard too much.
