Auburn Tigers head coach Gus Malzahn is a definitive candidate for 2013 Coach of the Year. So far this season, he’s taken a team that was 3-9 last year and turned them into a squad that’s currently 10-1 and are getting ready for a showdown in the Iron Bowl with Alabama that will ultimately decide the SEC West.
That wasn’t almost the case, though, as Saturday Malzahn and his team needed a last minute hail mary to keep that one-loss record intact against Georgia. The loss there would’ve most certainly let ‘Bama clinch the division later that night against Mississippi State.
But, that wasn’t how things worked out, and Malzahn and the Tigers enjoyed yet another win.
One of the things that Malzahn and his wife Kristi like to do after every game is visit the local Waffle House for a post-game meal. Of course, everyone in the South loves their Waffle House fix.
After the improbable win over Georgia on Saturday, one of the reporters asked the first-year Tigers head coach whether or not a trip to the establishment would be in the cards after he got done with his team.
Gus gave his best kind of, “Duh” answer:
“This is definitely a Waffle House night,” the Auburn coach said, cracking a rare smile after the Tigers’ 43-38 victory Saturday against Georgia.
That omelet was well deserved after Saturday, coach.
