USC interviewed Jack Del Rio for head coaching job

The USC Trojans parted ways with head coach Lane Kiffin earlier this season, ditching him at LAX airport. Since then, Ed Orgeron has been filling in as the interim head coach and doing quite well. According to Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, the Trojans interviewed Denver Broncos defensive coordinator and interim head coach Jack Del Rio about the opening.

Glazer tweeted: “USC Pat Hayden flew to Denver two weeks ago and interviewed Jack Del Rio for their head coaching job. Interview was ironically day b4 John Fox had his incident”

That was before Orgeron led the Trojans to victory over the No. 4 Stanford Cardinals on Saturday. The fourth game of a winning streak, and that brings the Trojans to 5-1 over the last six games.

The Trojans were probably considering Del Rio at one point, but it looks like they’d be foolish not to stick with Ed Orgeron. The players love him and have praised him.

“Coach O needs to be here next year … we want Coach O next year,” freshman Su’a Cravens, via the Los Angeles Times. “Forget the hiring, forget all that. We got Coach O and that’s all we need.”

Cravens had a fourth quarter interception that set up the game winning drive.
