Jimmie Johnson responds to Donovan McNabb's not a sport comments

NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson won his sixth Sprint Cup Series title on Sunday. Ahead of his accomplishment, a Fox Sports panel debated where that achievement would place him amongst his contemporary athletes like Tiger Woods and Kobe Bryant.

“Do I think he’s an athlete? Absolutely not,” McNabb said.

McNabb didn’t back down when pressed by host Charissa Thompson. McNabb was ready to keep rambling but Thompson stopped him, stunned by the statement.

“He’s not an athlete,” McNabb said. “He sits in a car and he drives, so that doesn’t make you athletic. I give credit to what he’s been able to do.”

“What athletically is he doing? … I didn’t say (NASCAR isn’t) a sport, I said he’s not athletic,” McNabb said.

We’ve heard other NASCAR drivers respond, now we have heard from the Champion himself. Johnson addressed the comments while making an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show. The show’s producer, Paul Pabst, tweeted Johnson’s comments.

“If Donovan (McNabb) would accept the invitation to come out and experience our sport…then he will know,” Johnson said.
