MLB rumors: Texas Rangers out of Jacoby Ellsbury free agent sweepstakes

The Texas Rangers seem to be yearly players for the top free agents on the market and this offseason is no different.

However, the team is reportedly out on the Jacoby Ellsbury free agent sweepstakes, this according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports:

(Rangers) have ruled out the other top free agent outfielder, Jacoby Ellsbury.

With Nelson Cruz departing, Texas is looking to replace his offensive production in the lineup. That’s something Ellsbury could do, though, it would be more in the use of speed and run scoring than power and run producing.

Signing Ellsbury would also force the Rangers to move Leonys Martin to a corner outfield position, something they’re not overly keen on doing.

Considering the money require to sign the Boston Red Sox outfielder and the lack of power in Ellsbury’s bat, it makes sense the Rangers would look elsewhere as they’re looking for more of a thunderous force in the lineup than a top of the lineup hitter.
