Could the Florida Gators’ injury bug be carrying over from the football field to the basketball court?
In the Gators’ 67-53 victory over the Southern Jaguars on Monday night, the Gators lost freshman point guard Kasey Hill to what the team is calling a high ankle sprain.
“It’s certainly a longer healing process, and when you try to rush guys back too soon, it normally complicates things,” Gators’ head coach Billy Donovan said following the game. “In talking to the doctor and talking to our trainer, the minimum right now is we’re looking at a month before we can consider getting him back on the floor.”
As Alligator Army notes, current Gators’ senior forward Casey Prather had the same injury last season and was out for 18 days.
Hill, a 6’1 Clermont, Florida native, played high school at one of the nation’s power programs, Montverde Academy. He was considered a five-star prospect and the nation’s second best point guard. With all of the suspensions Florida has had, including Scottie Wilbekin, who could play some point guard, they were obviously counting on Hill.
Hill is averaging 10.3 points and 4.3 assists per game.
