The movie hasn’t even began filming yet, and has already been awarded a release date. Focus Features announced yesterday that the third installment in the Insidious franchise, Insidious: Chapter 3 will hit theaters on April 3, 2015.
It comes as no surprise that they would move so quickly to release a third film. Insidious: Chapter 2 pulled in $40.2 million on opening weekend, and grossed over $83.1 in the domestic market. Add in the money that the film drew from the foreign market, and Chapter 2 pulled in $148.9 million. The franchise as a whole has drawn $137.1 million in the U.S.
Besides, anyone who saw Insidious: Chapter 2 knows that a third installment was teased at the end of the film, and they can’t just leave their loyal fans hanging, now can they?
As of right now, director James Wan, who directed both of the previous films, is not attached to the project. He is currently filming Fast & Furious 7 which is set for a July 11, 2014 release. At the current time, he has no scheduled projects after Fast 7 wraps, so one could be led to assume that now that Insidious: Chapter 3 has been given a release date, the announcement of a director would not be far behind.
Screenwriter Leigh Whannell, who wrote both previous Insidious films, is currently on board for the third installment.
Insidious: Chapter 3 is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2015.
