Sabres interested in Bruins' AGM Jim Benning

According to ESPN, “the Buffalo Sabres have asked for, and received, permission to talk with Boston Bruins assistant general manager Jim Benning about their open GM position.”

About a week ago, Buffalo fired GM Darcy Regier and their coach Ron Rolston, partially due to the team’s poor start to the season. It made sense for the Sabres to look at Benning to fill the role of GM, as he has previous experience within the organization.

Benning has been with the Bruins for eight seasons, including the last seven in his current role. Previously, he worked for the Sabres for 12 seasons, including eight as the director of amateur scouting.

It would be interesting to see Benning leave Boston for his old team, however, he would be leaving the Bruins, who are appearing to be Stanley Cup contenders yet again.

What do you think about the possibility of Benning rejoining the Sabres? Feel free to sound off in the comments below.
