2013 Maxwell Coach of the Year semifinalists announced

16 semifinalists were announced on Wednesday for the prestigious Maxwell Coach of the Year Award. There have been some amazing coaching performances in 2013 and this seems as if it may be one of the toughest lists to choose from in quite some time. Trying to say that one of these men have definitively done the “best” job this year is going to be extremely difficult:

Nick Saban – Alabama

Gus Malzahn – Auburn

Art Briles – Baylor

Steve Addazio – Boston College

Dabo Swinney – Clemson

David Cutcliffe – Duke

Tim DeRuyter – Fresno State

Jimbo Fisher – Florida State

Mark Dantonio – Michigan State

Gary Pinkel – Missouri

Rod Carey – Northern Illinois

Urban Meyer – Ohio State

Mike Gundy – Oklahoma State

George O’Leary – UCF

Ed Orgeron – USC

Gary Andersen – Wisconsin

While USC’s Ed Orgeron has made a great late push for the award with what he’s done since Lane Kiffin was fired, I would have to think that Duke’s David  Cutcliffe may end up taking this home at the end of the day. We’re at a time right now where people in Durham, NC are normally focused 100% on the basketball program, Cutcliffe has his team on the brink of an appearance in the ACC Championship Game, potentially facing off against the second-ranked Florida State Seminoles.
