The Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball team is 3-0 to begin the season. They are ranked second in the country to Michigan State, and have already beaten a top ten team in (6) Duke. Based on their early season performance, the Jayhawks are my favorite to win the National Championship.
There are multiple players on the Jayhawks that most teams will have difficulty matching up against. Andrew Wiggins is a 6′ 8″ freshman guard who will be drafted in the top-five of the upcoming NBA draft. He is putting up great numbers at 17.0 ppg and 6.0 rpg. Perry Ellis is a 6′ 8″ sophomore forward averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds per game. Ellis is the leading scorer on a team that has three players projected by Chad Ford of ESPN to go in the first round of the draft. The other two players are Joel Embiid, a freshman 7-foot center, and Wayne Selden Jr., a freshman guard.
Kansas has at least four difference makers on a talented young team. The win against Duke shows the team does not backdown from the spotlight, which can be attributed to Coach Bill Self and the competitive drive of his squad. If you are already thinking about your bracket, think Kansas as your early season favorite.
