LSU RB Alfred Blue granted another year of eligibility, will return in 2014

Aug 31, 2013; Arlington, TX, USA; LSU Tigers running back Alfred Blue (4) reaches for the goal line in the second quarter against Texas Christian Horned Frogs at AT

The NCAA has granted LSU running back Alfred Blue another year of eligibility due to a knee injury he suffered last season.  This is good news for both Blue and the Bayou Bengals with the reports that Jeremy Hill, their current running back, may opt to declare for the NFL Draft after this season.  This season, Blue has carried the ball 49 times got 239 yards and a touchdown at 4.9 yards per carry.

LSU may be losing a significant amount of skill position players after this season, so having someone they can potentially count on to contribute next year is important.  Most likely, Blue would be competing for and sharing carries with Terrance Magee and Kenny Hilliard, who are also scheduled to be seniors next year.  LSU is hoping that Blue can return to the form he showed as a sophomore when the 6’2″ 220lb averaged 6.9 yards per carry on 78 carries for 538 yards and 7 touchdowns.

LSU is coming off of a tough loss to Alabama but will have had two weeks to prepare for Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M Aggies who they get to host in Baton Rouge.  The Tigers were able to beat the Aggies last year and really had a lot of success holding Manziel and the Aggie offense in check.  They lost a significant amount of talent on the defensive side of the ball from last season but their offense is more explosive this season and it could be a shootout.
