Reading Royals set to rock "ugly Christmas sweater" sweaters for teddy bear toss game

The ECHL and minor league hockey in general are no strangers to gimmick sweaters. Some of the ugliest threads of all time come from the ECHL. but this ugly Christmas sweater-sweater is one of the most unique and intriguing we’ve ever seen. The Reading Royals will rock this jersey on December 14 according to the team’s official website.

They aren’t asking players to lace up the skates while wearing these bad boys for no reason though. The Royals are hosting a teddy bear toss night on the 14th, and there’s apparently an ornament giveaway and a “ham shoot” after the game to boot. Sounds like a pretty excellent time to us.

For the uninitiated, a teddy bear toss game is a pretty fun and outstanding event for charity. Typically all of the bears that are tossed out onto the ice will be donated, and in this case all of the stuffed animals will be going to Toys for Tots. This is what a teddy bear toss game looks like for the Royals.

While that’s a pretty good showing, there have been some instances of things getting pretty crazy in years gone by. For example, the Calgary Hitmen collected more than 25,000 teddy bears during their toss game last year. Check it out.

H/T to NHLexpertpicks and the Score for the stellar sweater pictures. Now if only these sweaters were available to purchase…
