Stephen Roberts flips from Alabama to Auburn

On the heels of four star offensive lineman Viane Talamaivao’s decision to flip from the Alabama Crimson Tide to the Southern Cal Trojans, another member of the Tide’s 2014 recruiting class has decommitted.

Four-star defensive back Stephen Roberts has switched his commitment from the Tide to the Auburn Tigers.

Roberts, who attends Opelika High School in Opelika, Alabama, is considered the country’s 155th-best overall player and the country’s 17th-best cornerback.

“It’s close to home — Stephen grew up an Auburn fan — and I think the fact they are having success and he’s been able to see that success and build a relationship with their coaches because of the proximity to home … it’s easy for him to get in the car and go over there,” Opelika head coach Brian Blackmon told Derek Tyson of ESPN.com. “I think that there was such an unknown in the spring last year with what Auburn was going to be, who they were going to be, what they were going to be like. I think that had a lot do with it.”

Roberts originally committed to Alabama in April, but has since made several visits to both schools.
