The Chicago Blackhawks have been struggling to find the back of the net though their last three games, and they’re going to have to get to the bottom of that problem without forward Bryan Bickell. While the injury was apparent after the ‘Hawks forward left Tuesday’s game against the Colorado Avalanche, how long he’d be out or how severe the issue was wasn’t known until today.
Bryan Bickell out 2-3 weeks with that lower body, ankle looking thing. #Blackhawks

At least Chicago has some options to offset the loss of Bickell, who has struggled mightily to show the same form that he flexed during the Stanley Cup run last season. Marin Hossa will be back in the lineup tonight when the ‘Hawks take on the Winnipeg Jets, and the team also recalled Jeremy Morin from the Rockford IceHogs to ease the absence of Bickell.
While he’s also capable of being an abrasive and sandpaper-ish forward, Bickell inked a big-money contract over the summer after his breakout regular season carried over into the postseason. He was one of Chicago’s best forwards throughout the Cup run, but seems to have struggled to maintain his sense of self following the multi-million dollar raise that he received.
He’ll have a few weeks now to regain his bearings before suiting back up for the ‘Hawks. Meanwhile the team will attempt to shake itself out of a mini three-game slump without him.
