Notre Dame DT Louis Nix done for the year according to Brian Kelly

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly announced that their stud defensive tackle, Louis Nix III has undergone surgery to repair a torn meniscus and is out for the rest of the season.  This not only hurts the Irish as they are currently 7-3 with games against BYU and Stanford left in the regular season, but Nix has a difficult decision to make.

Nix had a tremendous sophomore season that helped get the Irish to the national championship game against Alabama.  This season, Nix has not been the same player and had some struggles this year.  Nevertheless, the defensive tackle class appears to be up for grabs this year to see who the top player will be and if he his knee can recover quickly enough, he will have the opportunity to get in great shape for testing and climb back up to the status he had in the preseason.

Nix could opt to return for his senior year in South Bend, but the class next year could be better he is competing against and since the Irish are not in a conference, any missteps immediately make it so they are playing out the string.  Irish Chocolate may prefer to just go ahead and get paid next season in the NFL.
