San Francisco Giants re-sign reliever Javier Lopez to three-year deal

While many think of Tim Lincecum, Pablo Sandoval and Matt Cain when they reflect on the San Francisco Giants – other names like Javier Lopez have been just as vital to their success.

The sidearm LOOGY has been one of the most important pieces to the Giants’ recent run, which includes two World Series Championships in four years, though there was concern he’d leave for greener pastures this offseason as he entered free agency.

That will not happen as the Giants and Lopez agreed on a three-year, $13 million dollar deal early this morning. The deal was agreed upon on Wednesday night actually, but the two sides needed to finalize some language in regards to guaranteed money before officially claiming it as a done deal.

Lopez has appeared in 236 games for the Giants and has given up just two home runs.

The 36-year-old reliever had drawn interest from a handful of teams, including the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees.
