Minor league teams, no matter the sport, always try to think of unique and crazy promotions to drive in profit. The ECHL doesn’t really need to do that as much as, say, Minor League Baseball considering the ECHL has a bit more popularity (outside of AAA teams), but that doesn’t mean they don’t put forth the effort.

Case in point? The awesome ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater’ promotion the Reading Royals will take part in on December 14th.

The red and green sweater will be used towards a greater cause as it’s being used to draw interest to the Royals’ annual ‘Teddy Bear Toss Night’ where fans toss stuffed animals on the ice after the Royals first goal. Those stuffed animals are then collected and given to local youth as Christmas gifts, so all in all, it’s a great event.

If you’ve never seen a ‘Teddy Bear Toss’ – good news – you have now and it’s a pretty impressive sight:

Now just imagine it happening while a collection of grown men wear ugly Christmas sweaters. Epic.
