Seattle Mariners interested in closers Brian Wilson, Grant Balfour

The Seattle Mariners struggled to find a closer last season, finishing up the year with both Oliver Perez and Danny Farquhar as the names most frequently called upon in the ninth. That’s something the team doesn’t want to again, so they’re hoping to improve the back end of their bullpen by bringing in an established closer.

Two names at the top of their list according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal is that of Brian Wilson and Grant Balfour.

Wilson, the longtime San Francisco Giants closer who spent last season as a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers is looking to close again after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2012 while Balfour’s contractual demands could be too pricey for the Oakland Athletics.

#Mariners’ search for closers includes Wilson, Balfour, sources tell me and @jonmorosi. M’s interested in both, among others.

Both Wilson and Balfour would be a solid addition for the Mariners and both appear to be more than readily available assuming the money is right.
