St. Louis Cardinals weighing their options at shortstop

There may have been a slight rumor about the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals talking about either Elvis Andrus or Jurickson Profar. Both of whom play shortstop, a position that the Cardinals are looking to address.

Well now that the Texas Rangers pulled off that blockbuster deal with the Detroit Tigers that resulted in former National League Central slugger Prince Fielder being moved to Texas, those talks mean nothing. Yeah the Rangers are still listening to offers for Andrus and Profar, but I doubt the organization is going to be alright with letting go of the other two.

They were also approached by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim who are interested in third baseman David Freese. Now the Cardinals could have easily asked for Erick Aybar, but the since the Angels are looking for some young pitching, they would have countered with Freese and a Major League ready arm in return.

The Cardinals won’t want to take that route, so they’re going to have to find a shortstop in the market. According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, their options happen to be Stephen Drew, Jhonny Peralta, Rafael Furcal.
