After playing their first game on the road last week against St. Joe’s–an 83-79 victory–the 23rd-ranked Creighton Blue Jays will return home on Saturday to welcome in the 0-3 Tulsa Golden Hurricane.
That close victory over St. Joe’s vaulted Creighton into the rankings this week, and deservedly so. They’ve averaged a little over 95 points per game to start that year and have looked the part of a Top-25 team, if not somewhere in the Top-10.
Senior forward Doug McDermott has been one of the most dominant forces in the country, averaging 25.7 points per game, and 5.7 rebounds. McDermott especially came up big in their last win when he converted a three-point play with time running out in regulation to seal the deal for his team.
Head coach Greg McDermott, yes his father, couldn’t speak highly enough of how his son has performed thus far:
“Doug has played a lot of basketball, this was his first game-winner, so it’s about time,” coach Greg McDermott said of his son. “I was proud of the way he stayed patient and still found a way to get 20.”
Although, you have to love how he threw that subtle jab in there at the beginning.
Against Tulsa, the impressiveness of this squad should shine through once again. Offensively, they’re only averaging around 40 points per game, while Creighton is allowing just a shade over 50.
