Billy Donovan announced on Sunday that senior guard Scottie Wilbekin will be reinstated by the Florida Gators for Monday’s game against Jacksonville University. Wilbekin missed the first five games of the season because of a suspension stemming from a unspecified violation of team rules in the off-season.
Donovan said that he’s proud of the way Wilbekin handled the suspension:
He’s done everything, and I’m really proud of him. He’s really stayed on course since last spring. He was obviously injected back into our team full time as far as practice (in preseason). But with all that he has done up to this point and time he will be able to play (at Jacksonville).
He knows what we’re doing, he’s a senior, a bright kid. I think he’s anxious and excited to be back playing (USA Today Sports).
Wilbekin dished out 174 assists last season, good for the fifth-best total in Florida history. He averaged 9.1 points per game and was named second-team All-Southeastern Conference.
