The St. Louis Cardinals have been on a search for a shortstop for years now. They’ve plugged and played, constantly finding solid but flawed talents to hold down the spot. Now though they’ll have some stability as it’s being reported by multiple sources that the Cardinals have reached an agreement with Jhonny Peralta on a four-year, $52 million dollar contract:

It’s a hefty price to pay for Peralta, who was suspended this past season for performance enhancing drug use though it does give the Cardinals a solid man up the middle.
It also gives them flexibility in the field as Peralta can play multiple positions, including third base and corner outfield in addition to shortstop. The helps from the team being locked into keeping Peralta at shortstop down the road or in an injury scenario.
Peralta finished his 2013 campaign with a .303/.358/.457 slash alongside 11 homers and 55 RBI in 107 games. He should fit nicely in the top half of the Cardinals lineup.
