Early in free agency, it looked as if the San Francisco Giants and starting pitcher Bronson Arroyo would be closing in on a deal. Arroyo’s agent admitted the two sides were talking and the Giants have been long interested in Arroyo. But out of the blue, San Francisco agreed to terms with Tim Hudson which lessened their need for Arroyo, who is viewed as one of the better pitchers available in free agency considering the Cincinnati Reds didn’t tender him a qualifying offer. That means the signing team won’t have to give up a valuable draft pick in addition to the money they’ll fork out to get Arroyo’s name on the dotted line.
Knowing that, interested in Arroyo has been heavy and now the free spending Anaheim Angels are reportedly looking at bring Arroyo to Southern California:
The Angels are “in” on both Bronson Arroyo and Bartolo Colon but are NOT close on anyone according to sources
As Jim Bowden mentions, the Angels are also showing interest in Oakland A’s free agent starter Bartolo Colon, both of whom would improve the needy Angels rotation though neither is exactly a safe bet to reproduce their solid 2013 campaigns.
