This season, the finalist list for the Maxwell Award–given to the nation’s player of the year–is quarterback heavy. Actually, they’re all quarterbacks.

On Monday, we learned the three finalists for this season’s award which will be given out on Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards. Also, this trophy is generally a good indicator of who may take home the Heisman Trophy just two days later.

Let’s have a look at the three finalists who were named for the 2013 Maxwell Award:

Jameis Winston, Florida State: Last year, Johnny Manziel was the redshirt freshman QB that took the college football world by storm. This year, it’s been Florida State’s redshirt freshman phenom, Jameis Winston. So far, he’s been a bit better than Manziel was a year ago. Through his first 11 games, Winston has 3,163 yards with 32 touchdowns and just seven interceptions as he looks to lead the ‘Noles to an appearance in the final BCS National Championship Game.

Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M: After an offseason full of scrutiny, Johnny Football showed up to play this season when it was time to get down to business. On the year, Manziel has notched 3,537 yards with 32 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He’s the lifeblood of this Aggie offense, and still has a chance to become the first two-time Heisman winner since Archie Griffin.

AJ McCarron, Alabama: You can talk about his stats all you want, but the fact of the matter is, McCarron is dangerously close to grabbing himself a third consecutive national title. His 2,399 yards and 23 touchdowns have been enough once again to put the Tide in position to remain the kings of college football.
