The Sacramento Kings have a new ownership group and a new front office who are doing what they can to rid themselves of the pieces they acquired when they took over control of the franchise.

One such player who is reportedly on the chopping block is that of shooting guard Marcus Thornton, who the Kings are actively attempting to trade – this according to Yahoo Sports’ Marc Spears:

The Kings are actively searching for a small forward, sources said. They would love to trade guard Marcus Thornton and his contract.

Thornton has fallen out of the Kings rotation, which shouldn’t exactly be much of a shock to anybody considering his iffy defense. Head coach Mike Malone, who worked as an assistant in New Orleans when Thornton played for the Hornets (now Pelicans) apparently had issues with Thornton’s lack of defense there which eventually lead to Thornton being traded to Sacramento a few years ago. Now the two have met again and Thornton has struggled to get off the bench.

The former LSU product is a talented scorer, though lacks an all-around game.
