This almost seems unfathomable. Over the course of the three seasons that American Horror Story has been on the air, the one name that always seems to stick out front and center is Jessica Lange.
Whether it is the nosey neighbor Constance Langdon from Murder House, Sister Mary Jude from Asylum, or Fiona Goode in Coven, the one name you always relate to the series is Jessica Lange.
However this will all come to an end at the conclusion of the upcoming season 4 of American Horror Story.
Entertainment Weekly spoke to the actress, and she confirmed to them that she plans to exit the series after the conclusion of Season 4.
“It ends up being a lot of time during the year being committed to something,” she tells EW. “I haven’t done that for a long time. It’s like doing a stage play between the rehearsal and the run. This is a 6-month commitment every year. That will be four years in a row. I want to have more time to myself I guess. Once it’s over and I have a full year ahead of me with nothing to do, who knows? It might not have been the best decision. But I think four years doing something is a sufficient amount of time.”
Show creator Ryan Murphy told EW that Lange will not be playing the lead role in the next season; however, “she’ll have this great juicy part.”
I don’t know about you, but I for one will be incredibly sad to see her go. She is such a phenomenal actress who has the ability to command you to love her or hate her at her will. That is the sign of a truly gifted actress.
As of right now, they are not revealing any information as to the plot for season 4; however, Ryan Murphy has said that the season will not be contemporary and will more than likely be filmed in either New Orleans or Santa Fe.
American Horror Story: Coven airs on Wednesday nights at 10:00 p.m. on FX.
