By now, everyone has seen the play that had college football fans laughing Saturday. Two Florida Gators‘ players blocked each other on the first play of the second quarter during the Gators’ 26-20 loss to the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Senior center Jonotthan Harrsion pulled on a play and wound up blocking junior wide receiver Quinton Dunbar. They didn’t notice who they were locked up with and continued to block each other throughout the play.
Although the Gators are in the midst of their worst season in years (they are 4-7 and are now 27-point home underdogs against the bitter rivals, the second-ranked Florida State Seminoles), they have been able to laugh about the play.
“I thought it was comical,” senior offensive guard Jon Halapio told ESPN’s Jeff Barlis on Tuesday. “We were all in the locker room joking around about it.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Halapio added.
Gators’ offensive coordinator Brent Pease told reporters “sometimes you have to laugh” when asked about the play.
“Perfect technique and everything,” Halapio said. “[Harrison] should have [pancaked him]. He got in his way.”
The Gators and Seminoles will kick off at noon EST Saturday. The game is on ESPN.
