The finalists for the Lott Impact Trophy have been announced.  The trophy is awarded to a defensive player , weighing equal parts character and on field performance and is the only college football award based on the West coast.  The award is named in honor of Hall of Fame safety Ronnie Lott and this is only the tenth year it has been in existence.  This year’s finalists include Chris Borland, inside linebacker from WisconsinAnthony Barr, outside linebacker from UCLA, Devon Kennard, linebacker from USC and James Morris, inside linebacker from Iowa.

All of the finalists happen to be seniors as well as linebackers but the styles are dramatically different.  Borland is a hammer in the middle while Morris is a rangy linebacker for the Hawkeyes.  Barr and Kennard attack as edge rushers in Los Angeles for the Bruins and Trojans respectively.

Congratulations to those nominated as they not only finish out their respective seasons, but also their college careers and potentially move on to play in the NFL next season.
