Ryan Garbutt isn’t known for his goal scoring prowess, and the Dallas Stars keep him around more for his hustle than his flow. He scored a goal against the Anaheim Ducks following an outstanding individual effort though, and it’s certainly worth a look.
With the Ducks surging following a Stars goal, Garbutt pitches the puck down the ice and blows by two Anaheim defenders with room enough to walk in on Jonas Hiller.
They say that speed kills, and it certainly did on that play. Why the Ducks looked so tired is unclear since they had just been able to change their lines following a goal from Stephane Robidas. Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff seems keyed into Garbutt’s energy, and has played him more than usual this evening.
The typical depth forward has rewarded his coach with an outstanding game. He’s taken several good shots on goal and has played more than the likes of Alex Chiasson and Valeri Nichushkin against Anaheim.
This highlight is much better than the one that Garbutt produced the last time he faced off against the Ducks. In that contest the forward charged Dustin Penner and was suspended by the NHL for five games for the incident. That’s all in the past now, and this is a stellar effort from a depth player.
