Seattle Mariners remain interested in Mike Napoli

The Seattle Mariners are attempting to re-build their offense which is sorely in need of some pop. That’s why they’re allegedly interested in both Nelson Cruz and Carlos Beltran, though, either signing with the Mariners seems like a bit of a long shot.

Regardless, the Mainers have to cast their net out and according to Ken Rosenthal, not only are the Mariners interested in Cruz and Beltran but also Boston Red Sox first baseman, Mike Napoli.

Earlier this offseason, I wrote conflicting accounts about the Mariners’ interest in free-agent first baseman Mike Napoli, first saying they were “in,” then saying they were “out.” Well, after checking with additional sources and circling back to others, I have concluded that they are indeed “in.” And while I have no idea whether the Mariners ultimately will land Napoli, their pursuit of him makes absolute sense.

Unlike Beltran or Cruz, who are more ‘name’ players, Napoli playing in Seattle doesn’t seem all that outlandish in normal circumstances. However, Napoli seems to have found a home in Boston and the Red Sox have been very open about bringing him back, so it may be difficult for the Mariners to bring Napoli back to the West Coast despite their money and interest.
