In a news conference on Monday, University of Kentucky athletic director Mitch Barnhart unveiled the school’s official plan to overhaul Commonwealth Stadium. The project is expected to cost around $110 million and is predicted to be done in time for the 2015 season.

Barnhart said he hopes the renovations will “change the personality of the stadium.” Included in the outline is the goal of reducing seating capacity by about 6,000 seats in an effort to create a more intimate environment. Said Barnhart:

We’ve got to create an environment that’s fun for people to want to come. And I think this is the right size for us. And if there’s someone else in 15 years that disagrees with what the old guy did, then so be it. But for now, I think this is the right size for Kentucky (Lexington Herald Leader).
