When Cleveland Cavaliers guard Dion Waiters was asked about the report from ESPN’s Chris Broussard that the team was actively looking to trade him and there was a 3-hour meeting with general manager Chris Grant, he called it “nonsense”. He went on to say, “Man…I can’t sit in nobody’s office for three hours.”
Broussard had reported the Cavs are actively shopping Waiters and have had talks with the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers and Chicago Bulls, that Waiters was open to the idea of being traded but no deal was imminent. The Cavs have gotten off to a rough start this year and there were reports that a players only meeting that had Waiters get physical with one of his teammates. That rumor was furthered when Waiters was unable to play due to an illness following the meeting.
Waiters has said that there was no fight and that the Cavs are like a family, but clearly that has not stopped the speculation. The Cavs have a gaping hole at small forward and could be seeking to get one in exchange for Waiters, who has shown talent but has been incredibly inconsistent. Waiters is in just his second year after being the fourth pick overall in last year’s draft out of Syracuse.
