On Wednesday afternoon, Denver Broncos’ running back Knowshon Moreno did not participate in practice.

Although Moreno exploded for 224 yards and a touchdown on 37 carries in a 34-31 overtime loss to the New England Patriots Sunday night, he continuously limped off of the field and could be seen walking on crutches in a walking boot after the game. The Broncos are calling his injury a bone bruise in his right ankle.

“He didn’t go today,” interim head coach and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio told Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com. “I felt pretty good about the report I got back. We’ll just see how the week goes.”

Although rookie Montee Ball is expected to start if Moreno can’t go, he hasn’t exactly lived up to expectations, rushing for 262 yards and three touchdowns on 75 carries. In fact, the Broncos gave undrafted rookie C.J. Anderson three carries in Sunday night’s game. The Broncos also could activate Ronnie Hillman, who has been a healthy scratch since week seven. He has 182 yards and a touchdown on 40 carries.

The Broncos will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs Sunday. Both teams are 9-2 so the winner will take over first place of the AFC West and will have the best record in the entire AFC.
