Gray Maynard would drop to featherweight for fourth fight against Frankie Edgar

UFC lightweight Gray Maynard is set up for a third fight against Nate Diaz on Saturday night as they square off in the main event of The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale, but he has plenty of other rematches in his sights if he walks away from the octagon with a win.

Maynard is 1-2-1 in his last four fights, with losses coming to T.J. Grant and Frankie Edgar. The draw also came at the hands of Edgar, as the two battled it out for the UFC lightweight title.

If Maynard gets the win on Saturday, he wants a rematch with Grant, who is the No. 1 contender at lightweight, before taking another crack at Edgar. The Edgar rematch is something that Maynard is so interested in that he would be willing to drop down a weight class to take the fight.

“I’ve got to take care of Nate Diaz, but the goal is obviously to get the T.J. Grant bout again, the Frankie Edgar bout, and then get the lightweight belt,” Maynard told USA TODAY Sports and MMAjunkie. “Even if I have to drop down a division to face Edgar.”

The Diaz vs. Maynard fight is going to be exciting as we cap off Saturday’s action, and a win would certainly put him in position to get the rematches he would like to receive.

The only question will be whether or not the UFC has other plans.
