There are reports that are saying that LSU Tigers quarterback Zach Mettenberger has received an invite to this year’s Senior Bowl. That would make him the second highest rated quarterback that may end up attending the event. Derek Carr of Fresno State had already accepted his invite and Aaron Murray of Georgia accepted his, but will not be able to play due to a torn ACL. A.J. McCarron is also reported to be sitting on an invite currently out of Alabama.
If that all holds to be true, it would mean that the Senior Bowl has half of its quarterbacks selected for this year’s event. They will take six in all with three ending up on the North and South teams.
Mettenberger will have the opportunity to show he belongs in the first round discussion. He has a big time arm and has tremendous strength to the throw the ball down the field. Mettenberger has made some great throws this season in Baton Rouge, but he needs to be more consistent with his footwork. He will have access to NFL teams and coaching and be able to apply it on the field. Mettenberger is the type of quarterback that should shine in a practice environment like the one the Senior Bowl provides.
