Nail Yakupov injury update
It seems like 2013-14 is just going to be one of those seasons for Nail Yakupov, who was forced to miss practice yesterday due to a “banged up” ankle. He sustained the injury on Monday night against the Chicago Blackhawks and may not be ready to go when the Edmonton Oilers take on the Nashville Predators on Thursday night.

The timing couldn’t be worse for Yakupov, who was seemingly just starting to find his groove after a draining and forgettable opening month of action. While he couldn’t buy a point in the early goings, Yakupov has three goals and six points in his last seven outings. While there’s no timetable on the injury, if the forward misses a game or two it could mess with his timing.
Head coach Dallas Eakins doesn’t seem too worried about it though. He spoke to Joanne Ireland of The Edmonton Journal and spoke about the options that he has moving forward:
This may turn into a rotation process until we can get our lineup totally set but we have guys on the cusp. A lot of them have played well enough to be in the lineup. The problem is that we have extra guys, and they have played well enough to be in. That’s something we’ll have to sort through but my vote is to get those guys back in. Whoever is coming out, will have to take it in the chin.
The “extra guys” that Eakins is referring to are Mark Arcobello and Ryan Jones, who have been scratched for the last five contests for the Oilers.
