New York Islanders Unveil the Outdoor Game Jersey
This morning, the New York Islanders unveiled the jersey that they will wear for the 2014 Coors Light Stadium Series.
The jersey is classic Islanders blue with a modernized take on the Islanders traditional logo with a sleek chrome backing. The logo features the classic NY lettering with the hockey stick Y that has four red stripes on it; one of each of the team’s Stanley Cup wins. The team lifted the logo from the team’s historic mark, enlarged it, and added a chrome border.
This same logo will be featured on the custom made hockey pants that the New York Islanders will wear during the Stadium Series.
According to the press release featured on the Islanders official site, the players have had very positive reactions to the new sweaters.
"It’s sharp,” said captain John Tavares. “It’s going more for the modern look, which I think is a great idea, especially with so many teams going back to the retro. We’re going to look good when we go out there.”"
Center Casey Cizikas was particularly fond of the logo.
"“The logo stands out,” the center said. “That’s the main objective of the jersey. That’s what you want to see and that’s the most important part. It makes the jersey perfect.”"
Left wing Matt Martin was particularly fond of the new nameplates, which slightly vary from the norm with a white nameplate and blue lettering for the players’ names.
"“I love the nameplates with the white on the back,” Martin said. “Our gloves have a little bit of white on them. It’s awesome with the chrome. The logo and the colors are bold. It’s going be a great jersey and I can’t wait to get my hands on them.”"
Speaking of getting your hands on them, these exclusive jerseys are currently available to purchase for all New York Islanders season ticket holders. They will become available to the general public on Black Friday, November 29th.
