UFC heavyweight Shane del Rosario is in critical condition after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week. Rosario, 30, is currently at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, Calif.
“Shane had a catastrophic cardiovascular collapse at home on Tuesday morning,” del Rosario’s manager Jason House said in a statement to MMAFighting.com. “He was brought to the hospital in full cardiac arrest. He was resuscitated in the emergency room back to a stable heart rhythm and blood pressure. He is currently in the coronary care unit critically ill.
“Our prayers are with him and his family.”
There are no additional details on the situation, but we will update you as soon as they become available.
Del Rosario was scheduled to fight against Guto Inocente at the UFC’s year-end show on Dec. 28, UFC 168, but he was forced to withdraw from the bout with a rib injury.
We send out our positive thoughts to del Rosario and his family, as we wish him a full and speedy recover.
His health is now the most important thing, but hopefully he will be able to get to 100 percent and one day get back inside of the octagon to continue fighting in what was once a promising career.
