On Wednesday morning, the status of San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews was unknown. The former Fresno State product left the Chargers Week 12 win against the Kansas City Chiefs with a re-aggravation of his hamstring injury, which didn’t bode well for the oft-injured tailback. Add in a gimpy ankle and things weren’t overly promising.

Mathews has a long history of injuries during his short NFL career and considering how nagging hamstring injuries can be, it was highly questionable if he’d be able to suit up against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 13. However, it appears Mathews will likely be on the field come Sunday as it’s being reported he ‘should be fine‘ for the inner-conference battle:

"Gates, Royal, Hardwick and Mathews should be fine and ready for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati."

If Mathews has a setback or re-injures himself during the game, both Ronnie Brown and Danny Woodhead are next in line for carries.

Mathews is coming off some strong performances in recent weeks, including touchdowns in two of his past three games.
