No. 5 Oklahoma State beats Butler 69-67

The Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated the Butler Bulldogs 69-67 to advance to the finals of the Old Spice Classic.  OK State improved to 7-0, and Butler fell to 5-1.

The Cowboys opened a sizable 44-30 halftime lead, and held off Butler to remain undefeated.  Butler was within striking distance of OK State twice in the second half.  The first time, freshman guard Elijah Brown made a jumper at 11:55 to get the Bulldogs within three points of the Cowboys.  The Cowboys slowly pulled away, and after a Marcus Smart jumper at 4:01, OK State was leading 68-59.  Butler then took over to get within a point of OK State with 1:58 to go.  Butler was unable to score the rest of the game, and OK State survived 69-67.

OK State box score summary: Marcus Smart led all scorers with 17 points in addition to 8 rebounds and 5 turnovers.  Junior forward Le’Bryan Nash had 15 points and 5 rebounds, and sophomore forward Kamari Murphy scored 10 points with 8 rebounds.

Butler box score summary: Elijah Brown led the Bulldogs with 15 points on 5 of 11 shooting.  Junior forward Kameron Woods had 12 points and 9 rebounds, and junior guard Alex Barlow scored 12 points on 4 of 5 shooting.

Oklahoma State will play the winner of Memphis-LSU on Sunday at 7:30 pm ET on ESPN2 in the finals of the Old Spice Classic.  Butler will play the loser at 2 pm ET on ESPNU.
