When the Washington Capitals take on the Montreal Canadiens, they’ll be without center Brooks Laich. The team is calling the issue a “lower body tightness” which is a great new spin on the typical lower body injury. When ans how Laich was injured is not clear at this point, and there as been no timetable released either.
Brooks Laich will not play tonight with a lower-body injury. Jay Beagle will replace him. #Caps

This comes after Laich was unable to make the morning skate prior to Washington’s 5 pm ET matinee against the Habs. Even though he’s managed to stay healthy this season, Laich has yet to find the form that allowed him to score nearly 60 points in 2009-10. He had two consecutive 40-plus point seasons before missing all but nine games last year due to injury.
It seems that the time off hurt Laich’s timing, as he only has 6 points through 25 games so far in 2013-14. That means he’s on pace for 20 points, which would be the second-lowest total of his nine-year career.
Beagle will likely slot in on Laich’s line between Jason Chimera and Joel Ward.

As a team the Caps are trying to shake off a four-game losing streak heading into this evening’s contests against Montreal.
