Kanye West left his shoe deal with Nike to team up with Adidas. During an interview with Sway Calloway of Sirius XM Radio, West went on to rant about the shoe situation.
“Let’s thank Adidas for giving me an opportunity,” West said. “It wasn’t that Nike wouldn’t offer me a contract. It still was extremely marginalizing and a slap in my face. You know what I’m saying? Yeah, they let me design, it’s like, yeah they did me favor by letting me design, but they let other people design. They let (rapper) Pharrell (Williams) design. They let (rapper) Eminem design. I just designed the Yeezy’s. I turned up what they didn’t think I could turn up that far. And they tried to hold it back.”
“People hadn’t felt that feeling since the Jordans. And by the way, the Jordans are only popular at this point because of two people: me and (rapper) Don C.”
West also took credit for the ‘retro’ versions of the Jordan shoes which he has been spotted wearing. According to West, that inspired the Jordan Brand to reissue past versions of the shoe.
“You don’t even know what the new Jordans look like. All you know is them retros.”
