‘Warcraft’ Warner Bros. delays release date by three months

At first sight, Warner Bros. must have thought that they hit the fantasy motherload when it comes to release dates. Movies like The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World, and The Fantastic Four reboot out of the way and a movie like Mission Impossible 5 two weeks behind, they had the sweet spot of all 2015 release dates.

Then, the force was no longer strong with them.

Or should I say, Walt Disney Studios announced the release date for Star Wars: Episode VII. What was that date? December 18, 2015…the same date as Warcraft.

Well, crap.

Thankfully, Warner Bros. saw the writing on the wall and chose to shift the release date for Warcraft until March 11, 2016. At this moment, there is no real competition in or around that date, with the exception of an Untitled Disney Animation scheduled for the week prior.

The film is being directed by Source Code and Moon director Duncan Jones. The screenplay is being penned by Jones and The Express writer Charles Leavitt. The story and characters were developed by game designer Chris Metzen.

There are still not any definitive details on specific plot lines, character creation, and casting decisions. It is currently rumored that Colin Farrell, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol actress Paula Patton, 12 Years A Slave’s Paul Dano, Hell On Wheels actor Anson Mount, and Star Trek’s Anton Yelchin are attached to the project.

Warcraft is scheduled to be released on March 11, 2016.
