When the Washington Capitals downed the Montreal Canadiens yesterday, they did it without Brooks Laich in the lineup. They’ll be forced to do the same thing again tonight when they take on the New York Islanders on Long Island. While Laich did travel with the team, the lower-body issue that prevented him from playing against Montreal will keep him on the sidelines for the second consecutive contest.
Brooks Laich will miss a second straight game. Holtby to start on the Island.

The same issue that kept him off the ice for Friday’s game appears to be the culprit again this evening.

The Capitals will be back in Washington to take on the Carolina Hurricanes next Tuesday, and will play the Nashville Predators on Thursday before hitting the road again. Since Laich traveled with the team to New York, it seems likely that he’s close to returning and was just shy of being able to go.
Washington is calling Laich’s issue a tightness in his lower body, which doesn’t sound particularly concerning or problematic. Of course this is just speculation, and we saw Brent Burns miss a boatload of games with what the San Jose Sharks called “sore gums” earlier this year,
Still, this is just another setback in what has been a forgettable season for the veteran forward and he’s much better served when he’s out on the ice and not in the press box.
