Marshall University says running back Kevin Grooms has been suspended indefinitely after his arrest on charges of misdemeanor domestic battery and obstructing an officer.
A booking officer at the Western Regional Jail in Barboursville said the 21-year-old Grooms was being held there after his arrest early Saturday in Huntington. Police in Huntington could not be reached for additional details on the arrest.
Grooms was arrested less than 24 hours after Marshall defeated East Carolina 59-28 in the East Division Championship of the Conference USA.
Marshall is 9-3 overall on the season, and in first place in C-USA East division.
Kevin Grooms has 91 rushes for 503 yards, with a 5.5 YPC average, and has scored 6 touchdowns in his sophomore season.
The Thundering Herd didn’t lose their best rusher, but they did however, lose a piece of their “22nd best rushing team in the country” puzzle.

In a press release sent out this morning, Marshall acknowledged the incident and stated the back has been indefinitely suspended by the football program.
“We are aware of the situation and are handling it appropriately and internally,” the school said in a statement.
