Once again, the college football world is on it’s head. After watching top-ranked Alabama finally knocked out of the top spot thanks to a last-second loss to Auburn in the 2013 Iron Bowl, it looks like we will have a new champion this season.

It also looks like an SEC team could finally be absent from the national title game, as Florida State and Ohio State enter the driver’s seat in the national title picture.

How did the big loss affect the national title picture and who still has a shot to make the BCS national championship with a big conference championship weekend ahead?

Here is a look at the projected BCS rankings heading in to Week 15:

Really? Why would you use the phrase “finally knocked out of the top spot” ? The Crimson Tide had worked hard to get there and stay there…week after week playing each game like it’s a championship because that’s how the opponent played. They deserved to be #1 all this time and yes the loss was extraordinary with the run back from the end zone. But give credit where it was earned.

    • Chip Morrison

As an Auburn fan, I could not agree more. In my OPINION, Bama’ is still the best team in the nation; despite their loss to us last night.

  • Dillon

as a missouri fan im a little distressed about ohio state even being considered for the national title game. if all sec teams had 2 losses already maybe. but they havent played anyone! the only reason the are undefeated is because Michigan ran a horrible 2 point conversion play.

  • GR

Ohio State doesn’t play anyone. I would much rather see a 1 Loss Auburn or 1 Loss Mizzou over a no loss Ohio State, but Since Overrated State is the Golden Child of College Football, its gonna get its way

    • TREP

AND THE TEAMS THAT THE SEC PLAYS ARE SO GREAT? GEORGIA ST, SOUTHERN FLORIDA, LOUISIANA MONROE, CHATTANOOGA, THE HELEN KELLER SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND.YEP THE SEC PLAYS SOME REAL TOUGH TEAMS.

      • GR

Lets See, 7 of 14 teams in the SEC are in the Top 25. Of those, 3 are in the top 5.

Also of those, Tennessee had to play 5 out of 7 of those top 25 teams and Oregon just for an example.

Any SEC Schedule is brutal. As you can guess I’m a Tennessee Fan. We had to play Florida when they were still Healthy early in the season in the Swamp. They were a different team than they are today after 11 starters getting injured.

The Barn had to play LSU (Their only Loss), ATM, Bama, and UGA and now have to play Mizzou.

Tennessee Played Auburn, Mizzou, UGA, USCjr, and Bama (not To mention Oregon)

Just so you see the parity in the toughness of the schedules from top to bottom.

Kentucky had to play UGA, USCjr, Mizzou, Bama, and an OOC game against Louisville.

The SEC is a tougher Breed in football. When Ohio State plays more than 1 Ranked Team in the Regular Season, come back and talk to me.

Injuries happen to everyone, not a valid excuse ever. You lost to a team that lost to an FCS school, plain and simple.

          • GR

11 injuries to starters don’t normally happen. I’m not a FL fan. I’m a TN fan. We’re recovering from our worst stretch in history and I hate FL but you gotta admit 11 injured Starters is an anomoly

AND WHO RANKED THEM? YOUR BEST WILL LOSE AT LEAST TWO GAMES.BUT THEN WHEN YOU PLAY GEORGIS STATE, CHATANOOGA, LOUISIANA MONROE, THE HELEN KELLER SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND AND HAVE BYE WEEKS BEFORE EVERY DECENT TEAM EVEN GRAMBLING COULD BE A POWER TEAM.

If the SEC is so good then why has/have two middle of the pack Big 12 teams played in the SEC championship game 2 years running?

    • GR

Uhh what? Last year was Bama and UGA. This year is Mizzou and Auburn. Last I checked those are all SEC Teams.

Unless you’re implying that Mizzou and ATM (Who didn’t play for the SECC last year) are still Big 12 teams. That changed when they joined the SEC and have competent coaching and can pitch the SEC to recruits

  • disqus_ytwpWbdaw8

If the SEC is so good then why has/have Texas A&M and Missouri (two middle of the road Big 12 teams) came in and been better than everyone but Alabama?

  • Gene

SMH. Let’s gets something straight. I’m not an OSU fan, but how the hell does anyone think that Auburn should jump OSU? OSU has done what they were suppose to do, WIN! They’re in a big money conference. Plus, has anyone forgotten the preseason rankings. OSU was #2 in both polls and if you look at the Top 5, WTF! Where are these teams now except for Bama? Auburn wasn’t even pre-seasoned ranked got no votes during the pre-seasoned polling. I think this is Karma for real. OSU is back at #2 and you’re upset because they didn’t play anyone? Are you kidding me? Get a clue. Two undefeated teams left and if they win their conference games, they go to the BCSNCG. Enough said. Quit trying to make controversy about a one-lost team jumping over a undefeated team in a big money conference. If OSU loses, then you can debate.

    • GR

Auburn just beat the number one team in the nation. Overrated State barely squeaked by Michigan. Their SoS is nowhere near as good as Auburn, Alabama’s, or Mizzou’s. All little 10 fans care about is the win no matter how inferior the opponent.

      • Gene

Because you’re suppose to win all of your games in a big money conferences!! Which they did? Thank God the pollsters aren’t listening to the emotional crazies. Who cares?! That’s why they’re #2 in the country. If they lose this Saturday and Auburn beats Mizzo, then Auburn can fight for #2. But guess what, Auburn is 11-1 not 12-0. And two teams in big money conferences are undefeated. Period.

      • Angelic Assassin

Hmm, Virginia Tech is 8-4, Colorado State is 7-6, Chatanooga is 8-4 in the FCS.
6-6 Washington State, 7-5 Arkansas State, 6-6 Florida Atlantic, and 2-10 Western Carolina with a whopping undergraduate enrollement of not quite 8,000 in backwoods Cullowhee NC ain’t making your case cupcake feeder.

  • Brandon Sisk

I love it how the media finally exposes their bias. Using phrases like “finally knocked out of the top spot” and “will finally have a new champion”, let’s you and anyone else know just how dominant Alabama and the SEC have been over the years. They just couldn’t WAIT to celebrate not having an SEC team in the title picture.

    • Angelic Assassin

Media expresses their bias? On what planet have you been residing for the past 5 years? Should we discuss how a team that couldn’t win its own division much less its conference conveniently dropped a whopping two places in the polls after its loss on 5 November based on a schedule that included a #12 and #23 ranked team prior and no ranked teams thereafter? Should we include Georgia Southern as a power team of notable merit then and allowing advancement to #2? Sorry, rendering Flub U gator meat this year doesn’t hold water.
The only thing more hilarious was the supposed #1 SEC team, LSU, getting its ass handed to them by a pretender that shouldn’t have been there in the first place. If things had been any less biased by the media, LSU would have been playing a one loss Oklahoma State, or one loss Sanford. Both of them beat ranked teams afer their losses while the fat elephant feasted on Georgia Southern, a .500 Auburn team, and 2-6 Mississippi State.
Checkmate on your biased media, now crawl back under your rock.

      • Brandon Sisk

Checkmate my balls, only losers still cry about something that happened 2 years ago. You seem to forget the fact Alabama (since obviously you have too difficult of a time spelling the “pretender’s” name), was ranked #1 over LSU going into the game against LSU, and only lost by 3 in OT. It’s only natural that Bama not drop that far after a game like that, meanwhile Ok St. was still ranked below us anyway. The same thing to Oregon when they lost to Stanford this year, they only dropped 2 spaces (still remaining in the top 5), it’s not just the SEC.

Yet your short-term memory obviously forgets that, right? Complain all you like, the fact is your little conference teams hardly play anyone, how many of your conference’s teams play any SEC teams in the regular season? I thought so, now go play with your little mascara, and leave college football to the big boys.
