After another action packed Sunday of NFL action, the league’s landscape is beginning to take it’s form. We still have one month remaining in the 2013-14 regular season, but the draft order is shaping up and we have a new team atop the list.

The Houston Texans took over the No. 1 spot after the Jacksonville Jaguars spent the past few weeks hanging on to the top pick, which would give them the opportunity to have their pick of the current draft prospects.

With an impressive group of prospects to choose from, Houston could pick a player that will change the future of their franchise, so it will be interesting to see what direction the team will ultimately end up going. The last time the Texans had the top pick, they went to defensive end in order to boost their defense and this year we have one of the best defensive end prospects in recent memory.

Will the Texans once again use their No. 1 pick on the defensive side of the ball?

Here is a look at how the draft could play out if the season ended today.

Who do you think will go Round 1? I think either Hundley or Mariota return to school, so I only picked one of them for this mock. Also think Manziel is a borderline first-rounder who is watching his draft stock fall.

I agree, I think the only reason Hundley and Mariota would both come out is if they are thinking that the FSU kid will come out next year as the number 1 guy, but, it’s not likely either of these two will surpass Bridgewater this year. If they do come out, I see TB, then these two early… maybe Manziel late, Boyd, Carr, probably early second… I think there will be another run maybe in the late third… Murray, McCarron, Mettenberger, Fales, Hogan…did I miss anyone? LOL

The Giants aren’t going LB in the 1st round, because Jerry Reese doesn’t value the position that highly, and is resigned to FAs like John Beason (who’s doing a fantastic job and will be resigned), John Connor (IR), and mid to late round picks. They have Jacquian Williams and Spencer Paysinger as serviceable at SAM, but they will look for someone in FA to challenge Keith Rivers at WILL. On the other hand, the Giants desperately need to replenish their O-Line, which is the major cause for Eli forcing throws with nearly constant pressure in his face, and thereby starting 0-6 this season. Eli has more interceptions than TDs, and Reese won’t fix that with a linebacker. O-lineman David Diehl is a turnstile shell of his former self, stick a fork in Chris Snee after yet another hip surgery on IR, and David Baas is hurt almost all the time. Their replacements are progressing, but they’re certainly not top shelf talent like this year’s #1 pick Justin Pugh, who’s doing a pretty good job for a rookie. If there isn’t OL value when it’s Reese’s turn, he’s got major weaknesses at WR with their featured receiver Hakeem Nicks yet to find the end zone in a contract year, and who was benched last week by Tom Coughlin for lack of practice commitment. Reese will also look for a shut down Corner opposite Prince with Webster’s career about done, and Reese has demonstrated his willingness to go Corner in the 1st round on a few occasions now. He knows he has to deal with Romo to Dez Bryant twice a year, and they got swept by Dallas in 2013 largely due to deficiencies at Corner.

I think they go either OT or TE… Amaro… Maybe the Wr out of Clemson if he is there which is doubtful…

      • Joseph Bulger

OT yes, TE in the 1st probably not. They’re carrying 4 TEs on the roster now, including 2 projects the team’s high on, and Brandon Myers, who led the Raiders in receiving with 79 catches for 806 yards and 4 TDs. He’s still acclimating to the Giants game (i.e. still learning how to block, something the Raiders didn’t ask him to do), but he did grab 5 passes for 61 yards and a TD on Sunday. The Giants like Adrien Robinson, who JR compares to JPP… raw but wild athleticism, and also signed Larry Donnell who’s a good blocker. They’re not getting rid of Bear Pascoe because he’s also their backup fullback, a position he’s played a few times this season. So picking up a TE in the 1st to me is a stretch, especially with huge holes in the O-line, Corner (steep drop off in skills after Prince), and WR (Nicks will sign with somebody else). I’m seeing JR go OT with Michigan’s Taylor Lewan, or Alabama’s Cyrus Kouandjio in the 1st. Or, if they’re off the board, going Corner with Oregon’s Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, although he’s not the big Corner they’re really looking for to go up against the bigger WRs (like Dez twice a year).

  • Jared Myers

If Clowney’s gone by the time they’re up, the Raiders gotta take Louis Nix.

  • Darrin Anthony

I don’t know why I always see the Chargers picking that late. I seriously see them picking 7 or 8

  • Jay Wells

Rams have second overall pick… Not 3rd

  • Bobby Jackson

why are the bills focusing on a pass rusher, dont the have the most sacks in the league

  • anonymous

Lazy analysis of the 49ers’ pick, because the secondary is performing really well and are top rated. Also, Culliver is returning next year and they just resigned Brock, and they’ll most likely resign Wright. I’m thinking they draft a CB in the third to fourth round, possibly the second.
